Remove Devices from Your Old MDM
Before your devices can be connected to deeploi, remove them from your previous MDM.
Apple devices in Apple Business don't need to be removed from the old MDM. They switch to deeploi directly in Apple Business. See Register Apple Devices for how it works.
Why Do You Need to Remove the Old MDM?
A device can only be managed by one MDM at a time. If the old MDM is still active, connecting the device to deeploi fails. deeploi then can't manage the device.
Before You Start
- Make sure you have admin access. You need an admin account for your old MDM. No access anymore? Ask your previous IT provider for access, or have them remove the devices for you.
- Export important data. Removing a device also removes the profiles, apps, and settings the old MDM installed. Depending on the MDM and the option you choose, it can also wipe the device. So first export any important data that was rolled out through the old MDM.
- Back up recovery keys. Download the recovery keys from your old MDM, for example the BitLocker key for Windows or the FileVault key for Mac. Depending on the provider, they're deleted when you remove the device. Once the device is registered with deeploi, you can view its recovery key on the platform.
- Plan the switch. Apps, Wi-Fi profiles, and settings distributed through the old MDM may be removed along with it, depending on the provider. Only remove the devices once your employees can connect them to deeploi right afterwards. They register them through start.deeploi.io.

Check That the Device Is Free
On the device, check that no profile or account from the old MDM is left:

If nothing from the old provider shows up there, the device is ready to connect to deeploi.
