What do I do if an update says an app is still open?
Company apps on your work device are updated by deeploi in the background. Sometimes an update stays pending and tells you an app must be closed first, even though you closed it. The app is almost always still running in the background. Quitting it completely lets the update finish.
Step 1: Quit the app completely
Closing the window is often not enough. Apps like 1Password, Slack, or browsers keep a small helper running.
- Open Activity Monitor (press Cmd + Space, type
Activity Monitor, press Enter). - Type the app's name in the search field at the top right.
- Select every entry that appears, then click the X button in the toolbar and choose Quit.
- If an entry does not disappear, repeat with Force Quit.
- Right-click the taskbar and open Task Manager.
- Under Processes, find every entry with the app's name, including helper or background entries.
- Select each one and click End task.
- Also check the system tray at the bottom right: right-click the app's icon and choose Quit or Exit.
Step 2: Retry the update
Open Managed Software Center from your Applications folder and click Update next to the app, or Update All. The update usually completes within a minute.
Wait a few minutes. Updates on Windows retry automatically once the app is closed. You can also restart your laptop to let all pending updates finish.
Step 3: If the update still fails
Delete the app and let deeploi install it again. This does not delete your data in the app, because company apps store your data in your account, not on the device.
- Quit the app (Step 1).
- Open Finder → Applications and move the app to the Bin.
- Open Managed Software Center. The app appears under Software or Updates. Click Install.
- Quit the app (Step 1).
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps, find the app and choose Uninstall.
- Wait a few minutes or restart your laptop. deeploi reinstalls company apps automatically.
Still stuck, or the app shows a specific error message? Send a screenshot of the message to your IT admin or hello@deeploi.io. The message usually says exactly what is wrong, for example that the app needs a newer version of your operating system.
