Upload Your Own Custom Profiles
A custom profile is a .mobileconfig file that holds settings for Apple devices, for example a Wi-Fi network, a VPN or a restriction. You upload it in the dashboard and deeploi sends it to the devices you choose, without a support ticket.
Before you start
Custom profiles are part of Controls, so you see them if deeploi manages your device settings centrally. Only IT owners can upload and remove profiles. Custom profiles work on macOS, iOS and iPadOS. Windows is not supported yet.
Important
deeploi checks that your file is valid and that your devices accept it. deeploi does not check what the settings in it do. A profile with a wrong Wi-Fi password or a strict restriction reaches every device you choose, so test it on one device first, for example by targeting a small bundle. Employees cannot remove a profile you deploy.
Upload a Profile
- Click Controls in the left sidebar.
- Under Custom configuration, click the Custom Profiles card.
- Click Upload Profile.
- Under Profile, click Upload profile and choose your
.mobileconfigfile. The file can be up to 1 MB. - Under Platform, choose macOS or iOS & iPadOS.
- Under Applies to, choose all devices of that platform, or one bundle. A bundle limits the profile to the devices of the employees in that bundle.
- Click Deploy to [number] devices.
If your devices would not accept the file, the dialog shows the reason next to the file and nothing is sent. Fix the file and upload it again.
What Happens After You Deploy
deeploi saves the profile and sends it to your devices in the background. You can leave the page while it runs.
| What you see | What it means |
|---|---|
| Custom profiles update queued. | Your profile is saved and waits to start. |
| Custom profiles update started. | deeploi is sending the profile to your devices. |
| Something went wrong while deploying your profiles. | No profile change reached your devices. Click Try again. |
While a deployment runs, you cannot upload or remove another profile. Devices that are offline receive the profile once they come online.
Check Where a Profile Is Installed
The Custom profiles page lists every profile with its platform, what it applies to, who uploaded it and when, and its deployment. Profiles that deeploi uploaded for you show deeploi support under Uploaded by.
Click a profile to see each device it applies to. Device statuses can take up to 20 minutes to update.
| Status | What it means |
|---|---|
| Installed | The profile is on the device. |
| Pending | The device has not installed the profile yet, for example because it is offline. |
| Failed | The device could not install the profile. |
| Not installed | The profile is not on the device. |
What If a Profile Shows Rejected?
Rejected in the Deployment column means your devices refused the profile after it was uploaded. deeploi stops sending it so your other settings keep working. Click the profile to see the reason under Profile could not be deployed.
To fix it, remove the profile and upload a corrected version.
Remove a Profile
- On the Custom profiles page, click the profile.
- Click Remove profile.
- Click Yes, Remove.
Devices remove the profile automatically. Removing a profile cannot be undone. To use it again, upload the file again.
