Grant or Remove Admin Rights on a Device

A user with admin rights on a work device can install software and change system settings. You can grant or remove these rights for each user account on a device from the dashboard, without opening a support ticket.

This works on Mac and Windows devices that are connected to deeploi. You need IT owner access to the dashboard to change admin rights. Employees cannot change them.

What You See in the Users Section

Each device has a Users section on its Summary tab. It lists the user accounts on the device:

ColumnWhat it shows
UserThe name of the user account on the device.
Last knownAdmin or User, as the device last reported it. A clock icon means a change is waiting to be applied.
Set as adminA switch. On means the account has admin rights, or will have them once the device applies your change.

Change Admin Rights for a User

  1. Go to Inventory in the dashboard.
  2. Select the device to open its details.
  3. On the Summary tab, scroll to Users.
  4. Turn Set as admin on to grant admin rights, or off to remove them.

The dashboard confirms with Command sent successfully.

What Happens After You Change It

deeploi sends the change to the device. The switch shows the new setting right away. The Last known tag keeps a clock icon until the device confirms the change. Hover over it to see Pending change to Admin or Pending change to User.

If the device is offline, the section shows We’ll apply the changes when the device is online. The change is applied the next time the device is online.

Every change is recorded on the device's History tab with your name, the user account, and the time. For example: "[Your name] granted admin rights to [user]" or "[Your name] revoked admin rights from [user]".

Admin rights you grant here are permanent. They stay until you turn the switch off again. Granting admin rights for a limited time is not available in the dashboard yet.

Important

Every device needs at least one admin account. When only one account has admin rights, its switch is locked and shows At least one administrator needs to be on the device. To remove admin rights from that account, contact deeploi support.
